What to expect from counselling

How can Counselling help me? 

Personal Counselling is a way to talk about your situation, your feelings of anxiety and uncertainty, in a safe, secure and positive environment.  It doesn't have to be a long term commitment, but 'saying it aloud' makes it real and also relieves the pressure of carrying your concerns alone.   In this confidential, compassionate environment you have the space and time to explore what is going on for you.

What is person centred counselling?

In Person centred counselling, the counsellor works at creating the right environment in which a client feels able to look at themselves and develop a greater understanding of their own thoughts, feelings and meanings. The counsellor is not there to analyse the client or give them advice, but instead to be along side them, supporting them and helping them to explore their own issues, with the belief that the client with come to find their own 'answers'. 

What is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy?

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) is a short-term therapy that is more directive and focuses on a very specific set of behaviours. Techniques are used to help people better understand their thoughts and feelings which are leading to potentially problematic behaviors. The counsellor works alongside the client in setting goals and uses homework assignments between therapy sessions .CBT has a range of uses, but it can be particularly effective when treating phobias, anxiety, addictions, and depression.

What next? 

After our initial phone conversation, we can agree a suitable time and date to meet.  The first session will give you the opportunity to find out more about how and if counselling will be useful for you. 

How many sessions will I need?

 It’s up to you! Some people like to see how it goes, others like to set a target. It doesn’t matter which you choose, as long as it’s right for you.

What will the counselling sessions cost?

All sessions 50 minutes at £30-40.00 depending on distance.
